Intro to Young Living

Hello all my lovely readers... yes I know, I am still a bad blogger.  I know in my last post I said I was going to blog more often and then haven't.  My only excuse is that I have a lot of things in the works.  I am working on some classes that people can download and watch any time.  I have been working on finding a space to do Reiki (fingers still crossed that Mary calls me back), and I have been working somewhat weird hours for me.  Those are my excuses and deal with it! ;)  Today I am uploading an Intro to Young Living presentation I did.  I think it glances over all the things people want to know in an under 20 minute presentation.  If you are interested in ordering directly through the company after you watch the presentation please go to www.youngliving.com  click on your country, then in the right hand corner choose member sign up.  My number is 1310759 which you will need no matter what option you choose.

EO Spotlight: Thieves Blend

Hello and good morning my lovely friends.  Today we are moving on to the next oil in our journey through the Everyday Oils Kit from Young Living.  Today is all about Thieves.  This blend is amazing and one of the most popular oils from YL.  It's so amazing in fact that there is a whole line devoted to Thieves.  You can get toothpaste, household cleaner, mouthwash, throat lozenges, the list goes on.  Let's just talk about the Essential Oil Blend.
This blend was created from research based on legends about a group of 15th century thieves who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying.  When apprehended, the thieves were forced to tell what their secret was and disclosed the formula of the herbs, spices, and oils they used to protect themselves in exchange for more lenient punishment.

Studies conducted at Weber State University during 1997 demonstrated the killing power of these amazing oils against airborne microorganisms.  One analysis showed a 90 percent reduction in the number of gram positive Micrococcus Luteus organisms after diffusing for 12 minutes.  After 20 minutes of diffusing, the kill-rate jumped to 99.3 percent.  Another study against the gram negative Pseudomonas aruginosa showed a kill rate of 99.96 percent after just 12 minutes of diffusion.

Ingredients:
Clove: is one of the most antimicrobial, antiseptic, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-infectious of all essential oils.
Lemon: has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that amplify immunity.  It promotes circulation, leukocyte formation, and lymphatic function.
Cinnamon Bark: is one of the most powerful antiseptics known and is strongly antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal.
Eucalyptus: is anti-infectious, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory
Rosemary: is antiseptic and antimicrobial.  It is high in cineole-a key ingredient in antiseptic drugs.

Application:
  1. Diffuse for 15 minutes every 3 to 4 hours.
  2. Apply neat to bottom of feet
  3. Dilute 1:15 and massage over thymus
  4. For headaches put 1 drop on tongue and push against roof of mouth
  5. Dilute 1:15  for body massage
  6. Put 4-6 drops on cotton balls or tissues and put in or on vents
  7. Add 2 drops to a wet cloth and put in clothes dryer
This is one of the secrets to my families health.  My husband and I both work with people and get exposed to germs constantly.  We put Thieves on the bottom of our feet every morning.  This has led us to vary rarely getting sick.

If you are interested in purchasing Thieves you can do it in a couple of ways.
  1. You can order through my bulk order on the 15th of every month or direct through Young Living.  This is done as a customer and would cost you $41.78 for a 15ml bottle or $151.32 if you purchase the Everyday Oils Kit.  If you want to diffuse this oil to kill those airborne germs the home diffuser would cost you $98.68
  2. You can become an Independent Distributor.  Purchase the Start Living with Everyday Oils Kit for $150.00.  This will also give you a $40 off coupon for a diffuser which would only cost you $35.00 once you applied the coupon.  If you are already a distributor you can get Thieves for $31.75.
Regardless if you want to be a customer or a distributor you will need a member number to order through Young Living.  You will want to put in 1310759 to sign up.  I hope everyone has a beautiful Monday.

Blessings,
Amber K

EO Spotlight: Lemon

Happy Monday folks!  Today I bring to you the next oil in the Everyday Oil collection, Lemon.  This awesome oil is one of my favorites to add to water.  Let's learn a little more about it, shall we?
Lemon (Citrus Limon)
Botanical Family: Rutaceae (Citrus)

Medicinal Properties: Antitumoral, antiseptic, improves microcirculation, and immune stimulant (increases white blood cell count), improves memory, relaxation.  Rich in limonene, which has been extensively studied in over 50 clinical studies for its ability to combat tumor growth.
Uses: Circulatory problems, arteriosclerosis, obesity, parasites, urinary tract infections, vericose veins, anxiety, hypertension, digestive problems, acne
Fragrant Influences:  It promotes clarity of thought and purpose with a fragrance that is invigorating, enhancing and warming.  University researchers in Japan found that diffusing certain aromas in an office environment dramatically improves mental accuracy and concentration.  Diffused lemon resulted in 54% fewer errors, jasmine 33% fewer errors, and lavender 20% fewer errors.  When aromas were diffused during test taking, scores increased by as much as 50%.  A 1995 Mie University study found that citrus fragrances bossed immunity, induced relaxation, and reduced depression.

EO Spotlight: Frankincese

Hello my lovely readers.  I must apologize for being so inattentive of late.  To say life has been crazy would be an understatement at this point in time.  We are in the process of moving to a new city.  This involves getting our home ready to rent, us packed up for moving, things put together for our garage sale, etc.  My hubby gets to move before I do and I am not looking forward to that at all.  Today we are going to talk about the next oil in the Everyday Oils Kit, Frankincense.  This is one of my most favorite oils in the whole world.  I hope you enjoy learning all about it!

Frankincense
Botanical Family: Birseraceae (Frankincense)

Medical Properties: Antitumoral, immunostimulant, immune-stimulating
Fragrant Influences: Increases spiritual awareness, promotes meditation, improves attitude, and uplifts spirits.

EO Spotlight: Peppermint

I know I missed last week with the EO spotlight!  With the craziness of our life and it was a holiday it was all a little crazy and I had no energy.  But no worries, we are all back on track.  So here is the next oil in our adventure through the Everyday Oils Kit from Young Living.  This is one of my favorite oils and I would say we use it at least once if not multiple times a day.

Smoking Cessation: Cost

I've had some people who read the smoking cessation post ask how much this program would cost.  That is a very good question that is kind of hard to answer for the reason that you are picking a few oils out of a list.  I decided to choose these ones because they come in the Everyday Oils Kit.

If you purchase the Everyday Oils Enrollment kit ($150.00) you will get the following:
2 Lavender, 2 Peppermint, Lemon, Thieves, Frankincense, Valor, PanAway, Peace & Calming, Purification, 3 NingXia Red samples plus informational booklets and a $40.00 dollar off coupon for a diffuser (separate order).  If you order the diffuser you get Citrus Fresh and Lavender Essential Oils

So, if you ordered the enrollment kit plus ICP, ComforTone, Essentialzyme, JuvaTone, JuvaSpice, and a diffuser you would pay ~$335.75

If you ordered Thieves, Peppermint, Peace & Calming, ICP, ComforTone, Essentialzyme, JuvaTone, JuvaSpice, and a Diffuser as a Customer you would pay ~$407.90

That's a savings $72.15 plus you are getting 8 more oils as an Independent Distributor than if you paid for just the oils/suppliments in the Smoking Cessation Protocol.  If you are interested in ordering oils to help you stop smoking either as an independent distributor or as a customer don't hesitate!  Today is the day to create a healthier you!  If you are interested in ordering go to www.youngliving.com click on member sign up.  You will need to use a member number.  Type in 1310759, fill out your information, and you are good to go.  If you have questions don't hesitate to contact me through comments, email, facebook, or call me at 612-501-8940.

Helping create a healthier you,
Amber

Smoking Cessation

I recently was asked a way to use essential oils to help stop smoking.  This is what the Essential Oil Desk Reference suggests.  I would like to add that Reiki can help as well by decreasing stress which is often a trigger for those who smoke.

Recommendations
Singles: Cinnamon, Clove, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Roman Chamomile, Clary Sage, Orange, Oregano, Tarragon
Blends: Thieves, Harmony, Juva Cleanse, Peace & Calming, GLF
Supplements: ICP, ComforTone, Essentialzyme, Life 5, JuvaTone, JuvaPower, JuvaSpice

Applications and Usage
Inhale the oils that work best for you whenever the urge for a cigarette arises (can be inhaled directly from bottle)

Diffuse oils for 30 minutes, 4-5 times a day as needed

Place a warm compress with 1-2 drops of chosen oil over the liver

Ingestion and Oral
Cleanse colon and liver with ICP, ComforTone, Essentialzyme, and JuvaTone

Put 1 drop of Thieves on the tongue every time you have the urge to smoke

JuvaTone, JuvaPower, and JuvaSpice (For salads and cooking) detoxify the liver, which in turn help reduce cravings for nicotine and caffeine.  Take 3 tablets of JuvaTone 3 times daily and 2 Tbsp of JuvaPower or JuvaSpice daily.

Call me if you have questions about any of the products listed or this protocol.  If you would like to order go to Young Living and register to become either a customer or distributor.  You will need to use YL # 1310759.  Remember:
  • Customers pay full retail pricing, but will receive e-mails about monthly promotions and product news
  • An Independent Distributor gets wholesale pricing (24% off retail) but must include an enrollment kit (basic is $40.00 premium is $150) to open your wholesale account.  This is a 1 time fee and as long as you order $50.00 per year you are good to go.  You will also get $40.00 off a diffuser coupon with your first order.
The highlighted oils are in the Everyday Oils Enrollment Kit.

Blessings,
Amber

EO Spotlight: Lavender

I've decided every Monday I am going to spotlight 1 oil in the Everyday Oils Kit from Young Living.  This kit is my favorite kit because it comes with 9 of the most popular oils from Young Living.  It is great for those who are just starting to get into using essential oils in their life or for those who want to just get the favorites.  Today we are going to spotlight:

Lavender
(Lacandula Angustifolia)

Botanical Family: Lamiacea or Labiatae (Mint)
Plant Origin: Utah, Idaho, France
Extraction Method: Steam distilled from flowering top

Historical Data: The French scientist Rene Gattafosse was the first to discover lavender's ability to promote tissue regeneration and speed wound healing when he severely burned his arm in a laboratory accident.  Today, lavender is one of the few essential oils to still be listed in the British Pharmacopoeia.

Medical Properties: Antiseptic, antifungal, analgesic, antiumoral, anticonvulsant, vasodilating, relaxant, anti-inflammatory, reduces blood fat/cholesterol, combats excess bebum on skin

Uses: Respiratory infections, high blood pressure, ateriosclerosis, menstrual problems/PMS, skin conditions (perineal repair, acne, eczema, psoriasis, scarring, stretch marks), burns, hair loss, insomnia, nervous tension

Fragrant Influence:  Calming, relaxing, and balancing both physically and emotionally, improves mental accuracy, concentration

Application
1. Apply 2-4 drops on location (does not need to be deluded)

4. Diffuse
5. take as a dietary supplement (this is for Young Living's essential oil only)

How we use it:
Here are just some of the ways we use this essential oil in our household:
1. First Aid:  This oil is great for scrapes, cuts, burns, headaches, and menstrual aches.
2. The antibacterial properties are great for general cuts and scrapes.  We put 1 drop on the area, gently rub it in then apply a band-aid.
3. When we are sunburned or if we get burn from the campfire, cooking, etc lavender helps regenerate the tissue effected, it also cools and soothes the burn.
4. Headaches can often be minimized with this oils calming and anti-inflammatory properties.  Just a drop or two on your hand and massaged at the temples and the back of the head work wonders.
5. We also put it on the bottom of our feet at night to aid in relaxation to help us sleep.  Lavender can be used in so many ways that you really can't go wrong with this one.  When it doubt reach for the lavender.

Interested in getting the Everyday Oils Kit?  You can by clicking here to sign up for an account use member #1310759

Essential Oil Class

Today I got to be a guest speaker for Oils of Wellness at their essential oil class.  I was asked to talk about fragrance oils vs essential oils and what we all need to know about bath and body products.  Everyone there seemed to be really interested in what I had to say.  It was really nice!  I can't wait to do more classes.  Here are the notes from the class for those who are interested.

Bath & Body Products
What you need to know to stay healthy

We are told by many entities that we need to read labels especially in food.  How often do you read the labels of your bath and body products?  Do you even know what the ingredients mean?

Bath and body products do not need to be tested to prove how safe they are.  The Government will only step in when enough complaints have been made.  Currently in the U.S. Ingredients do not need to be labeled on soap nor any allergens.  The following must be stated on soap to follow current regulations:
  • Business Name
  • Identified as soap
  • Weight in oz.
  • Physical Address

…. Now let’s talk lotions.  Most lotions that you purchase in the store contain preservatives/parabens.  These are used to extend the life of lotion since it is made from water (which will eventually mold).  Common preservatives/parabens to look out for are:

Parabens mimic estrogen, are potential hormone (endocrine) system disruptors, and were found in the breast cancer tumors of 19 of 20 women studied (Darbre 2004). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tested urine from a group of 2,548 Americans over the age of 6 and found parabens in over 99% of samples (Calafat 2010). Propylparaben and butylparaben have been classified as potential human endocrine system disruptors by the European Commission on Endocrine Disruption (EU 2007).
Other LOW concerns: Endocrine disruption, Ecotoxicology

Monday Fun Day

Monday's are bittersweet for me.  On a high note it's the start of a new week and to me that can be very exciting since I never know what my week is going to be like until it gets here.  On a low note it means the hubby is gone while he finishes his fieldwork.

As I look back this weekend was pretty good.  On Friday I went to my favorite Chiro and got adjusted and then chatted about Reiki.  I am excited that they are interested in it.  Then I went over to my favorite massage therapist and gave her a Reiki session.  I am hoping she e-mails me a testimonial because the way she explains what she felt before, during, and after is so eloquent.  On Saturday I went to a essential oil class about emotions.  It was a really good class.  I think I could do the protocol very easily during Reiki.  It's great at purging and balancing our emotions.

So what will this week bring?  Well my sister is coming over on Tuesday to get a Reiki session and then staying the night.  That will be nice.  On Friday I have two Reiki sessions back to back so that will be interesting.  Then we are off to my parents for Easter weekend.  I am also getting my list together of the essential oils I want to order on the 15th.  It's so hard to pick and choose since I want them all.  Right now I have the following list going for myself:

  • Joy (it's 10% off this month) I love this scent and it's great in so many ways for aromatherapy.
  • Thieves Mouthwash, I am so glad this is finally back in stock
  • Lavender, I go through about a bottle a month
  • PanAway, this is a new favorite for pain relief.  It's great on backaches, headaches, sore muscles...
  • Thieves Foaming Hand wash Refill, We love this soap in our house.
I would love to add more but there is always next month.  If you want to get in on free shipping let me know before April 15th and I'll add you to my order.  You can order direct if you want through Young Living.  Click on member sign up, then become a member.  Then you can choose to be a customer or a independent distributor.  A customer pays retail pricing.  If you are really into oils I recommend becoming a distributor because you get wholesale pricing.  Use member number 1310759 when you sign up for either choice.

Well I suppose I should get ready for my week.  Happy Monday everyone!

Healing: Life

Life has been amazing since the last time I wrote.  The hubby came home for the weekend (which is always exciting since he's away for school the rest of the week), I got my Reiki 1 attunement, and I am finding myself so at peace.

It's amazing when everything starts coming together.  My massage table came in on the day I went to get my Reiki 1 attunement so I could start practicing right away.  I got some great tips and pointers from Amber, my master teacher on how to help people and make this my own.  My hubby has been super supportive which just tops everything off.  It's amazing to be completely happy.  I don't think many people are but right now I honestly cannot complain about anything.

In other news I am looking for people to practice on.  So if you are interested in a free session let me know.  It takes about an hour and I use both aromatherapy and reiki together to give you the ultimate experience.  I am hoping by the end of next month I can get my next attunement and then really focus on getting Ki Wellness up and running.  I am going to look through some more SBA stuff this week and figure out what's what.  Why do they have to make it so confusing?

Anyways, that is all I really have to report today.  I haven't done much else.  I better pick up the house though because right now it's a disaster!  Happy Sunday!

Reiki

Reiki is something I am passionate about.  It is something I feel called to do.  Many people do not know what it is or what it consists of.  This website has a great FAQ about reiki.

So what is my goal in all of this?  Well I want to incorporate aromatherapy and reiki together to provide a wonderful healing experience for those open to it.  Unlike massage, the client does not get undressed except to take off their shoes.  We use a light touch is specific areas to help align the energy in the body.  Most people feel supreme relaxation that helps assist the body in healing itself.  Many times it's used in conjunction with other therapies.  I love helping people and I fully believe that God has pointed me to this path and that this is the way I am meant to help people.

Aromatherapy to me is something I have really gotten into the past couple of years.  Scents can help our bodies in multiple ways whether internally, aromatically, or on the skin.  I just became a Young Living Distributor (I <3 this company!) and cannot wait to learn more from Jen Nordin as she is my guru.  It's my personal belief that when I combine these two things together my clients will have a wonderful experience.  That will aid them in ways they never thought possible.  My heart is so full with the possibilities!

Sick and Thinking

I have a head cold.  My husband can tell you I am not taking being sick well at all.  I haven't been sick in at least over a year since I started eating more raw.  Luckily, I had most of yesterday and all of today off from work.  Though I had planned on getting a bunch of things done today right now I am sitting on the couch writing this blog post.  There are times you just have to listen to your body and mine is saying I need a break.  I am listening to it even though my mind is telling me all the things I could be getting done.

I believe this all came around to give me time to really reflect on my life and where it is heading.  I've done a lot of thinking/planning/wishing lately.  I've been doing a lot of thinking of what I really want to do in life.  Jen and I had a wonderful talk last night when I saw her for a massage.  Right now I have a job, one I happen to be really good at and enjoy but not necessarily something I want to do for the rest of my life.  What do I really want to do?  I want a Reiki practice that incorporates aromatherapy to provide  powerful wellness management for those seeking it.  To do this I am getting my Reiki attunements, well at least the 1st one now and hopefully the 2nd one in the near future with the 3rd not too far off in the future.  I am trying to take all of Jen's aromatherapy classes with the hope that soon I'll be able to become a Young Living distributor.

If you follow this blog you know that I am a big proponent of essential oils and healthy living.  I want to be able to teach others who are interested how to follow this way of life.  I am so excited that I am actually getting started with all of this.  This is something more than a passing fancy, this is something I feel called to do.  My ultimate goal is to eventually open a practice.  I need to learn up though in how to start a business (right now all I really have is a hobby with Soapy Joes) and how to manage all of that.  I would love to offer sessions on Friday afternoons and maybe all day Saturdays and if it gets bigger, how exciting that would be.  I cannot wait for it all to come into place and I think it will.

Crafty: Time to Get Ready

Well it's time to get ready for my next show coming up at the end of March.  I am really excited about this one.  I've slowly started focusing on making natural products without parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, artificial colors, and artificial fragrances.  They are items that I don't want in my products that I buy so they are not going to be in the products that I make.  This might shrink my customer base but I feel like a hypocrite when I make other kinds of products.  Even though the scents can be fun and the colors bold and amazing, they are not natural.  These are the things I am thinking of making:

  • Soap (I usually make bastille soap but I may do some different types this time, all will be naturally colored and scented with essential oils)
  • Laundry Detergent (I am thinking scented with: unscented, grapefruit lavender, lavender and peppermint patchouli)
  • Essential Oil Rollers (these will be mixed oils with a carrier oil and essential oil blends good for headaches, muscle aches, sinus issues, etc also some blends that can be used as a perfume)
  • Room Spray (mixed with alcohol these will have scents good for the air such as deodorant type scents for stinky rooms, linen sprays, and aromatherapy type scents.  They are also body safe)
  • Bath Bombs (scented naturally)
  • Lotion (I make a nice thick lotion that is free of all the nasty stuff)
  • Incense Cones (made from all natural products)
  • Crayons (something for the kiddies, these will be made from natural sources and colored with food coloring gels)
  • Lip Balm (All natural, no preservatives)
  • Luminaries (made from a high melt point wax that can hold tea lights or those battery operated lights)

I think that's it so far.  Some of the items are new that I have never made before so we'll see how they will turn out.  It's fun to try out some new things.  Looking at that list... I think I am going to be busy until the show.   I do wish I had some more Young Living EO Blends because I think they would just be amazing in some of these applications, but I'll have to make do with what I have.  If only I had a million dollars right?! :)
